Prepping for the SAT

College Test Prep

Alice Lissarrague, College Admissions Support

I am often asked by parents whether or not their student would benefit from an SAT prep class. Like private tutors, test prep classes are typically quite expensive, and in my opinion, are usually not a great use of a student’s time.

I find that working with a tutor, who tailor’s each session specifically to a student’s needs, is a more efficient and effective means of test prep.

In addition to working with a tutor, I recommend students take advantage of Kahn Academy’s free online SAT test prep site as well as free downloadable practice tests available from the College Board. Multiple timed practice sessions are a key component to preparing for standardized tests, followed by a review of one’s errors with a tutor or by learning how to do the problem correctly on Kahn Academy.
